Anti-fungal Ringworm Creams – What Works
The most successful kind of cure for ringworm in humans is through the use of an anti-fungal cream. Ringworm is a contagious rash that has a red outer ring with clear skin in the middle. The skin on the edges of the sphere many be crusty and raised. The rash itself is not painful but it does get itchy. It is the discomfort of the itch that most people find the most troublesome about ringworm.
Since ringworm is not a worm or an insect but a form of fungus, anti-fungus creams work incredibly well to alleviate the infection. In pets there is also dips and shampoos available for treatment. In humans the normal treatment consists of cream and on occasion an oral medication if the infection is seen throughout the entire body. As far as anti-fungal creams go, most people can use over the counter creams to effectively treat their ringworm. Ringworm also has two other well know variations, namely athletes foot and jock itch. Rarely will these fungi need more than over the counter creams. Creams and ointments that are offered without a prescription typically contain or clotrimazole in them. The most common brand name products that have one or other of these ingredients include Micatin, Monistat, Tinactin and Lotrimin. Terbinafine is another drug used to treat ringworm. This drug is found in another popular anti-fungal cream, Lamisil.
The irritation will need to be washed with soap and water and dried completely before the cream is applied. You should then apply the anti-fungal cream to the inflammation and spread it beyond the border of the rash. It is important not to discontinue the medication simply because your symptoms have decreased or gone away completely. With most products you need to continue the treatment for two to four weeks.
Your irritation should show significant improvement within a couple of weeks. If it does not it is probably time to go to a doctor for a more exact diagnosis. Doctors have a wide variety of fungal medications offered to them through prescriptions. Allylajines is one such medication, which is offered as a pill, gel or cream.
Particularly difficult strains of fungus can often be found in the toenails and scalp. A fungal nail infection attacks a finer or toe nails or the skin under the nail. Fungal nail infections can be difficult to treat. You can try a

n anti-fungal cream, lotion or a nail polish. There are some offered without a prescription. The most successful form of treatment for a fungal nail infection is an anti-fungal pill which you can get from your general practitioner. Anti-fungal pills are more successful for ringworm of the scalp. This fungus has the unsightly side effect of causing the hair to fall out in the area of the fungus. But it does grow back after the infection is healed. Prescription creams also work effectively for ringworm of the scalp.
