Kitten with Ringworm?? Treatment & Can we handle her?
The other day, my friend Mike came over to our apartment with a kitten whom he found wandering around outside. No collar, and she looked pretty roughed up, so I'm guessing she was wild for a little while. She is litter trained, though, so she was somebody's pet at some time. We put up a found ad on craigstlist, but no one has replied, and my two roommates want to keep her if no one replies. That's fine with me (as long as they cover finances), but there are a couple of things that concern me.
First, the cat appears to have ringworm. She has little round sores on her paws and a couple on her head, a large raised one (~3 inches in length) on her leg, with a shaved appearance. Some of them have the characteristic ring. How can we treat ringworm? Also, she's in the bathroom right now (sort of quarantined, as we have two other cats); is she safe to handle? If not, will she be safe to handle during treatment, such as if we got special shampoo? Is she safe around the other cats during treatment?
Also, I've noticed that since she came here (she's been here about two days), she's had very terrible diarrhea. I realize this might be nothing, but is there anything serious to watch out for that this might be a symptom of?
Thank you so much for your help!
