Ringworm is a common infection on the scalp, skin or nails caused by fungi. This fungal infection is commonly attributed with the fungal organisms known as the dermatophytes. A sample skin on the area is taken and is subjected to different analyses in the laboratory.
Other general symptoms of ringworm include skin inflammation, appearance of blisters on the affected skin, rashes, and itchiness and soreness of the contaminated area. The infected skin is usually characterized with a circular redness, which gradually expands as the condition worsens. The surrounding area commonly develops into flakes. As the infection propagates to the surrounding area, the central region commonly starts to heal.
