This is essentially a bruise on the white part of the eye. Usually people get these when they do something called "valsalva." Anything that causes a strain, coughing, lifting heavy objects, straining while going to the bathroom, etc can cause it. Make sure her blood pressure is okay. It will usually resolve on its own like any other bruise. The speed of healing depends on how much blood leaked. If things worsen or if her vision decreases, call an eye doctor immediately.
